Pop goes the horn

2012 Fiat 500 vehicles may experience an intermittent horn actuation or a sticking horn. This TSB applies to vehicles built with rear window wiper/washer and instrument panel parts module and without speed control, built before May 2, 2012.

 

  1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. Wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before further service.

  2. Remove the drivers air bag (DAB). Refer to the detailed removal procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT under Service Info > 10 – Restraints > Air Bag, Driver > Removal.

  3. The top wire (1) must go to the black plastic housing and the bottom wire (2) must go to the metal horn plate.
    The top wire (1) must go to the black plastic housing and the bottom wire (2) must go to the metal horn plate.
    Locate the two horn wires. Note: The horn wires may be incorrectly placed. The bottom wire must go to the metal horn plate and the top wire to the black plastic housing.
  4. Move the top wire from position 3 to position 4 on the black plastic housing.
  5. Move the bottom wire from position 5 to position 6 (metal horn plate).
  6. Install the driver air bag per service manual instructions.
