Accident volumes rising with the temperature

The RAC in the UK has reported a 44% increase in road traffic accidents which it says can be mainly attributed to the spell of warm weather.

The motoring organisation believes that several factors are contributing to the increased number of incidents. Bright evening sunshine dazzling drivers heading west is one key issue and increased traffic volume also plays its part. However, it is believed that accidents can mainly be put down to driver fatigue, heat exhaustion and frustration, which can often be compounded by the fact that the driver has had a restless night due to the temperature.

The summertime advice from the RAC is to allow extra time journeys, take regular breaks on longer trips and to keep well hydrated while at the wheel.
