Gates unveils PowerGrip® Timing Belt Kit Plus ABDS Water Pump

Gates has developed a cost-effective answer to problems caused by vehicles equipped with water pumps located behind the Synchronous Belt Drive System (SBDS) but driven by the Accessory Belt Driven System (ABDS).

Vehicles such as Ford Fiesta 1.2 (Petrol), Volvo V60 1.6 (Petrol), Vauxhall/Opel Zafira 1.8 (Petrol) and Vauxhall/Opel Meriva are just a few examples of popular vehicles with engine designs that feature just such a set-up.

The solution is a Gates PowerGrip® Timing Belt Kit Plus ABDS Water Pump. It means that drive systems specialists now have all the parts they need for a perfect first time fit – in one box.

Water pumps are a critical element of the cooling system. If incorporated in the Synchronous Belt Drive System (SBDS), Gates recommends their replacement along with any associated metal parts such as tensioners and idlers, as part of a kit. It is good workshop practice and cost effective because industry standard times already include the labour element for installing the water pump.

Where a water pump is part of the ABDS but located behind the SBDS, it can only be reached by removing the timing belt. Gates says it is too labour-intensive to risk having to remove this assembly twice and that it makes more sense to replace the ABDS-driven water pump as part of the same procedure. In other words, both jobs should be completed at the same time, with the help of a single kit.

The advantages of the Gates PowerGrip® Timing Belt Kits Plus ABDS Water Pump include:

– One part number and a complete solution in one box
– OE quality components guaranteed
– Cost and labour time saving

Replacing all of the parts at the same time ensures that the water pump will be able to perform for another full SBDS duty cycle.
