Lackluster Audi

This TSB applies to the 2008 Audi TT Quattro, equipped with the 3.2L V6 engine. The customer may note that the engine returns to idle speed (approximately 1,400 rpm) although the accelerator is depressed, and the vehicle lacks power/hesitates on take-off.

The condition may be caused when the brake pedal and the accelerator pedal are depressed at the same time. Customers who tend to drive with their left foot resting on the brake pedal are prone to experience this problem.

With the introduction of electronic power control (EPC, with no accelerator cable) to fuel injection systems, an engine rpm control feature has been incorporated into the engine electronic control system software. Application of both brake and accelerator pedals at the same time results in:

  • Brake pedal function (normal at all times) overrides any throttle application.
  • DTCs will not be stored.

If the brake pedal is depressed while the accelerator pedal is depressed, after approximately two seconds, engine rpm will return to idle speed (about 1,400 rpm). If the accelerator is applied while the brake pedal is depressed, the vehicle accelerates slower than usual (reduced engine torque).

  1. Test drive the vehicle with the customer to duplicate the condition.
  2. During the test drive, observe the customer’s driving habits to determine if he/she drives while resting their left foot on the brake pedal.
  3. After the test drive, connect a VAS diagnostic tool and check for any stored DTCs. If DTCs are found, repair as needed. If no DTCs are found, explain the technical correlation between the brake pedal and accelerator to the customer.
