GM MDI cable issue

GM MDI cable issue

Owners of various 2010-2013 GM vehicles may experience a Service Stability/Traction message, if the vehicle is equipped with electric steering.

During diagnosis the technician may find DTC C0710 with symptom code 71. The C0710 71 can also be found in the PSCM electrical power steering module if equipped. This applies to 2010-2013 Cadillac SRX, Chevy Camaro and Equinox and GMC Terrain, and 2011-2013 Buick Regal, Chevy Camaro convertible, Chevy Cruze and Volt, and 2013 Cadillac ATS and XTS, and 2013 Chevy Malibu.

When servicing the SAS (steering angle sensor) using GDS, a technician may have difficulties in learning the SAS sensor using GDS 2. The display screen may just continue to read waiting or may display an error message.

Upon rechecking for codes, the technician may find one or more DTCs (U0074, U0077, U180D, U0293, U0216, C0186 and or C0196). These DTCs will not clear.

  1. For learning SAS, check the diagnostic packages updates for GDS 2.
  2. Upon checking for codes and you find that DTCs U0077, U0074, U180D, U0293, U0126, U0125, C0186 and C0196 are set and will not clear, if after diagnosing the chassis bus the cause of the fault is not found, the cause may be an MDI cable to DLC issue. Try a different MDI cable and perform the SAS learn following the published service information and clear the communication codes.
