Motul partners with historic Carrera Panamericana rally Mexico

Passion, endurance, quality and history are all words which figure strongly in the DNA of internationally recognised lubricant company, Motul. They are, equally, words which could be ascribed to the historic, world-renowned Carrera Panamericana rally in Mexico, an event with which Motul is now official lubricant partner.

In 2014 the legendary rally will begin in Veracruz on 17 October, and cover over 3,000 kilometers of extremely harsh surfaces and conditions on its way to the finish in Durango on October 23.  The 90 entrants will encounter climatic temperatures ranging from tropical to near freezing within the space of 72 hours, and compete at altitudes between sea level and three thousand meters – all of which requires very high quality, specialist lubricants.

Nicolas Zaugg, Manager of Motul’s Latin America region, said about the partnership: “For several years, Motul has been supporting the teams taking part in the race. We helped the victorious 1953 Studebaker with Pierre de Thoisy at the wheel to break the speed record on Mexican roads at a dazzling 316km/h in 2003. We are now very proud to step up our effort for La Carrera Panamericana, one of the most emblematic and demanding race in the world, hence associating our name to values such as challenge, performance and tradition.”

As official lubricant partner Motul will be well-positioned to offer competitors a range of specialist lubricants from its different historic and high performance ranges.  For those participants who will be in vehicles with “re-built” engines, Motul’s 300V range in its Motorsport Line includes 100% synthetic lubricants using technology.  This guarantees maximal performance, above and beyond existing standards, in extreme conditions such as will be experienced on the Carrera Panamericana.

Also available to competitors is Motul’s full Classic Line for historical vehicles which is made up of four different mineral or semi-synthetic products formulated specifically to suit the constraints of classic engines. These separate into different products for vehicles built between 1900-1950, 1950-70 and post 1970 and feature specific detergent levels compatible with the engine materials and performance characteristics of each era.

Motul has first-hand experience of what is required for this type of event, having won it seven times in the past.  Endurance racing driver and 24 Hours of Le Mans class winner, Pierre de Thoisy, last took part in 2010 and holds the record for the most successes. The Frenchman was one of several Motul ambassadors in previous editions.

The new partnership between the lubricant specialist and the Carrera Panamericana completes a list of legendary, classic events throughout the world dedicated to historic vehicles, and which receive technical support from Motul.  These include Le Mans Classic, Le Tour Auto in France, La Festa Mille Miglia in Japan and the Classic Endurance Racing Championship in Europe.

Eduardo Leon, Carrera Panamericana President affirmed, “For historic races such as ours, an alliance with Motul forms a very important and visible link between Europe and Latin America.”
